The Sail of Two Centuries

The Sheringham Shantymen present a celebration of 200 years of the RNLI

On Saturday 27th July 2024 at the Woodville Theatre, Gravesend, The Sheringham Shantymen will be presenting a special performance as part of the RNLI 200 celebrations.

The Sail of Two Centuries will feature a feast of shantys and songs of the sea along with the unique blend of humour from Norfolk’s (if not the country’s) oldest ‘Boy Band’.

The Sheringham Shantymen was formed back in 1988 by a group of lifeboat men and friends in order to mark the 150th anniversary of their home town’s first lifeboat, The Augusta.

Since then, the group have worked hard to develop and refine their own style of performance and are still entertaining crowds near and far.

Over the past 35 years the group has raised hundreds of thousands of pounds for a myriad of charities and good causes, even purchasing a Lifeboat for RNLI Wicklow in 2007.

The Sheringham Shantymen have released 7 albums, performed at 1000s of shows throughout the UK, Ireland, France, Holland, Germany and America and appeared on a plethora of national television shows including Country File, Children In need, The One Show, Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway and they are proud to boast that they have ‘the badge’ from their appearance on Blue Peter.

The group have close ties to the RNLI to this day with members serving as boat crew and in

administration roles alike. Funds raised from this special performance will go towards local

RNLI stations.
